I would say yes.
is nothing wrong with making new friends. Although if you have a feeling that he wants to take it further but you only want to be friends, you have to make this very clear. It is not fair to flirt with guys when you have no intention of dating them.and this also makes them upset and it creates bad karma for you. If this is a first date, I would make it in a central location and make sure your friends know where you are and who you are with. I would not go somewhere private (ie their house etc) on a first date.
